May has been a month of championing local talent and independent spirit, as we ran our very first Premier Business Spotlight. The goal was simple: give a genuine platform to local businesses making a difference—whether through their service, their energy, or their contribution to the community.
We invited nominations and votes from across Cheltenham, Stroud, and the wider area, with a brilliant range of businesses put forward by customers, friends, and supporters. The response showed just how much people value the dedication, creativity, and hard work of those running businesses on our doorstep.
With the votes counted and the stories shared, it became clear that all three finalists were so impressive in their own right that we couldn’t just stop at one winner. While the original prize was a £150 meal and drinks at Settebello for first place, we’ve decided this month to also award prizes to our runners-up: second place will receive £100, and third place will receive £50—both as a contribution towards a meal at Settebello, Cheltenham.
So, here are this month’s results—and what makes each of our top three finalists genuinely worth celebrating.
🥇 Winner: Poochie Keen, Stroud - Brooke Davies
We're delighted to announce that the winner of May's Premier Business Spotlight is Poochie Keen, an independent business in Stroud, founded by Brooke Davies.
Poochie Keen officially opened its doors on the very day voting closed—making this win even more meaningful. Brooke has spent years working with dogs in all kinds of settings, from daycares and boarding facilities to her own dog walking business. She's also volunteered with rescue dogs abroad, all of which inspired her to create thoughtfully designed dog apparel for all kinds of breeds and personalities.
What sets Poochie Keen apart is Brooke's commitment to comfort, quality, and a little bit of fun—each suit is designed with real dogs and real owners in mind. Her hands-on experience, combined with a genuine passion for dogs, has clearly struck a chord with local dog lovers and the wider community.
As Poochie Keen takes its first steps as a business, the support and recognition from voters is a testament to the value that small, passionate startups can bring.
